Leucothoe

Height: 0,2–0,3 m

A low, spreading, densely branched shrub. It develops into a slow-growing, compact bush. Its oval, glossy, leathery leaves are bright red at first and then turn dark green. In autumn the leaves turn bronze or red, which further enhances the plant's decorative value. Small, bell-shaped, white flowers bloom in clusters in spring. The flowers are fragrant and attract pollinating insects. It likes partial shade or shade, but also tolerates sun if the soil is constantly moist. It needs soil rich in humus, well-drained and slightly acidic. Its water needs are moderate. It is excellent as a groundcover, an edging plant, or in mixed shrub groupings.
